For over 30 years, Intech Hawaii has been a leading managed service provider (MSP) serving Honolulu’s most heavily regulated sectors.
With end-to-end support across frameworks like the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Intech delivers secure, compliant IT solutions that help organizations stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and regulatory demands.
As demand surged for NIST and CMMC compliance support, Intech recognized a clear opportunity to deepen its cybersecurity leadership and strengthen customer trust.
Intech wanted to pursue CMMC Level 2 certification because it would allow them to offer clients an audit-ready cybersecurity service while also strengthening credibility with prospects. Achieving certification would also have a practical benefit of Intech being essentially ‘pre-verified’ and could be excluded from client audits. This would reduce assessment costs and simplify compliance efforts, making Intech an ideal partner for businesses in pursuit of CMMC.
To reach their own compliance goal, Intech needed to build a certified environment that could scale securely across clients while adapting to shifting regulatory requirements.
“We audited our entire toolset and replaced anything that fell short of CMMC,” said Terence Tang, VP of Client Strategy at Intech Hawaii. “Because the requirements were still new, many vendors didn’t yet have fully compliant offerings.”
Intech needed a solution that could deliver 24/7 monitoring with log retention capabilities that aligned with CMMC. Another requirement was that the solution did not process, store, or transmit controlled unclassified information (CUI).
Beyond the technology factor, Intech needed a partner that clearly understood the nuances of compliance and the operational realities of running an MSP. As a result, the partner needed to deliver a cybersecurity solution that fit the budgets of both Intech and their clients.
Field Effect stood out as the clear choice for Intech—fully aligned with CMMC standards while offering the robust protection, value, and partner-first mindset needed to scale.
By design, Field Effect operates as a Security Protection Asset (SPA) within client environments. The platform’s architecture provides transparency that CUI is not transferred, aligning with CMMC compliance.
Field Effect additionally provided a comprehensive CMMC Customer Responsibility Matrix which made it simple, for Intech and future assessors alike, to understand how Field Effect supports clients.
Beyond 24/7 SOC monitoring, Field Effect delivered the extensive visibility and evidence that Intech needed to maintain and comprehensively protect an audit-ready environment. It replaced several disparate point tools Intech had been managing separately, including endpoint detection and response (EDR), Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace monitoring, vulnerability management, DNS firewall, and more. This provided single-pane-of-glass visibility that enabled Intech to streamline operations and reduce overhead.
Intech’s team found that Field Effect MDR reporting was exceptionally clear. Audit-ready reports and role-specific documentation made it easy for Intech to showcase value and align with specific compliance requirements across client environments.
Field Effect’s AROs (Actions, Recommendations, and Observations) additionally simplified daily operations. As Terence explained, “The AROs are easy to understand. With the prioritization and suggested path for resolution, it automated activity we were originally doing manually and ensuring that nothing is missed.”
With Field Effect MDR at the core of their security environment, Intech Hawaii achieved their CMMC Level 2 certification—becoming the first MSP in Hawaii to reach this milestone.
During the assessment, Field Effect played a direct role in helping Intech demonstrate how the platform’s SOC architecture securely stores Security Protection Data (SPD) and aligns with the requirements of NIST SP 800-171.
“Field Effect was a tremendous partner in the audit,” said Terence “We had an initial meeting where the C3PAO, CG Silvers Consulting, outlined the controls they wanted to validate. When Field Effect’s time came, they provided a clear demonstration, answered every question, and validated their systems professionally and confidently.”
Beyond certification, Field Effect gave Intech the dependable protection and visibility they needed to strengthen client environments—delivering peace of mind without pushing anyone over budget.
“Field Effect is the perfect combination—it’s affordable and works well. With a SOC behind the solution, we’re not getting a million alerts, just the ones that matter,” says Terence.
The partnership also extends beyond technology. The Field Effect and Intech teams regularly run joint events, host webinars, and launch targeted outreach activities to engage organizations preparing for CMMC. This collaboration has enabled Intech to shift away from third-party marketing agencies and significantly expand its reach—ultimately tripling monthly new-client acquisition post-certification.
“The partnership has made a real difference,” added Terence. “We’ve genuinely enjoyed working with the Field Effect team and are excited about what’s ahead.”
