Through its novel digital “tether” health platform, TryCycle Data Systems is transforming how care is provided for mental health and substance use disorders.
Geoff Schaadt, VP of Technology, has been with TryCycle since its inception. Without resources for cyber security, Geoff needed an effective defence as well as ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.
He chose Field Effect’s Covalence® threat monitoring, detection, and response platform.
With offices in Ottawa and Connecticut, the team at TryCycle is driven by the mission to “try” something new to break the “cycle” of addiction.
The company’s technology helps clinicians monitor symptoms, risks, and day-to-day functioning of patients in treatment for addiction and other behavioural health conditions.
Focused on bridging the gap between the time a patient leaves treatment and their next appointment, TryCycle’s technology is used as an opt-in extension of treatment. Patient-driven data insights, trends, and risk patterns are continuously collected and analyzed in real time to aid early interventions, clinical calls to action, and peer support.
While TryCycle is a small business — under 20 full-time employees — that doesn’t exclude the company from security compliance regulations like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Geoff needed to find a comprehensive and viable option to meet all HIPAA and PIPEDA requirements.
To improve TryCycle’s security posture, he sought a solution that was cost-effective, quick to implement, and robust.
After meeting with the team at Field Effect, Geoff deployed Covalence.
At TryCycle, achieving HIPAA and PIPEDA compliance is critical for not only ensuring privacy and data safeguards, but also landing new business. “We’re constantly responding to regulatory checklists about our security measures. Covalence gives us the ability to check off the boxes and demonstrate a high level of compliance.”
For Geoff, Covalence’s easy integration, user interface, and prioritized alerting set it apart from other MDR solutions.
“Covalence doesn’t waste our time with over-alerting or complex reports. The alerts and reports are delivered in a very digestible way and are never overwhelming,” he says.
