The company
Sera Brynn is a cybersecurity and compliance firm founded in 2011, with offices in Virginia and Texas. The company supports organizations with high assurance requirements across federal, regulated, and commercial sectors.
The firm is an Authorized CMMC C3PAO, an Accredited FedRAMP 3PAO, a Registered GovRAMP 3PAO, and a Certified ISO 17020 Inspection Body. Sera Brynn offers a wide range of services, including assessments, compliance advisory, penetration testing, incident response, digital forensics, expert testimony, and managed security services.
The challenge
Sera Brynn’s existing managed detection and response (MDR) solution created operational friction rather than efficiency. The firm’s team was inundated with a high volume of alerts that lacked meaningful detail and were often false positives.
“Every alert took between 30 minutes and four hours to investigate because no context was provided,” said Jeff Farr, CEO of Sera Brynn.
Senior analysts at Sera Brynn were consumed by repetitive investigations instead of higher-value work. MDR licensing costs were significant, limiting pricing flexibility and margin preservation. And despite the investment, leadership lacked confidence that cybersecurity threats were being detected quickly and contained effectively.
Sera Brynn needed an MDR platform that reduced noise, improved analyst efficiency, and materially strengthened security outcomes.
The solution
Field Effect quickly emerged as the clear choice, delivering the clarity, control, and technical maturity Sera Brynn had been missing, all backed by a responsive team that felt like an extension of their own.
Field Effect MDR brought everything together in a unified, end-to-end platform for prevention, detection, and response across Sera Brynn’s client environments. Instead of relying on stitched together tools and scattered logs, Sera Brynn gained a fully integrated platform where every component worked together seamlessly to deliver the precision they needed.
“It was obvious the solution was designed correctly,” said Farr. “A unified code base and kernel-level operation make a real difference. Access to what’s under the hood is a major differentiator.”
Field Effect’s AROs (Actions, Recommendations, and Observations) reinforced Sera Brynn's confidence. AROs delivered rich, contextual insight that previously took hours of manual analysis to uncover.
Instead of sorting through fragmented alerts, the team now had clear, actionable intelligence, complete with step-by-step remediation instructions and access to back-end telemetry when deeper investigation was desired.
The results
Field Effect reduced operational overhead immediately by:
- Decreasing labor costs by approximately 70 percent
- Largely eliminating false positives
- Slashing investigation time from hours to minutes
- Allocating tasks previously reserved for senior engineers to tier 1 technicians
“My team immediately trusted the AROs,” said Farr. “They were clear, straightforward, and usable.”
Field Effect made it easy for Sera Brynn to focus on the highest-priority threat at any given time, whether that was proactively improving critical vulnerabilities or responding to active threats.
Its deep visibility and enhanced detection capabilities blocked threats before they could escalate, while Field Effect’s expert analysts quickly contained even the most advanced incidents, delivering true resilience across Sera Brynn’s client environments.
With seamless access to telemetry and backend alerts, Sera Brynn also had the flexibility to investigate incidents more deeply when desired, reinforcing the value they provided to clients and strengthening long-term relationships.
“Over the years, I’ve sold and supported more than fifty security tools across EDR, MDR, XDR, and SIEM,” said Farr. “We could choose any of them. I choose Field Effect to protect my own company.”
