2023 marks the 10th edition of the Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers competition—and Field Effect claimed a spot in the top 100!
Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers, organized annually by Mediacorp Canada Inc., recognizes the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies.
“The employers chosen this year represent the ‘best of the best’ and many have pioneered initiatives that would have been unthinkable five years ago,” says Kristina Leung, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
Winners are judged based on eight criteria: workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial, and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
According to the judges, here are three of the reasons why Field Effect was selected as one of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers (and what our employees have to say about working for the company):
1. Prioritizing physical and mental health
We offer employees a flexible health spending account as part of the health benefits plan, and host regular wellness challenges to encourage employees to adopt healthy habits and lifestyles.
We also support a variety of social clubs and activities, from skating and skiing to yoga and meditation. These activities are not only fun, but they give employees a chance to strengthen their connections with one another.
We also recently launched the Not Myself Today program company-wide, in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. The proven program seeks to build greater awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and foster safe and supportive work cultures.
2. Collecting and actioning employee feedback
We seek employee feedback on a range of issues through semi-annual in-house and outside consultant surveys, as well as conduct exit interviews with departing employees. Giving employees a chance to contribute through regular surveys and feedback sessions is critical to our success.
By consulting employees during the pandemic through surveys, we have settled on a hybrid work model that reflects the overwhelming desire to continue working from home at least part of the week.
3. Investing in development and performance
We support ongoing employee development throughout their careers, from paid internships to in-house and online training initiatives, to tuition subsidies for courses at outside academic institutions.
We also recognize excellent performance with individual bonuses, on-the-spot rewards, peer-to-peer recognition awards, and long-service awards.
