What is MacGyver Labs ?
The MacGyver team within Field Effect consists of Analysts, Developers and Security Researchers who deliver subject matter expertise and capability development against interesting challenges and research opportunities that don’t fit the more focused mandate of other teams. These opportunities require a blend of technical expertise, insight, creativity, ingenuity, perseverance and communicate effectively. You will be equally responsible for engaging with other subject matter experts across the company, within the industry, distilling concepts and findings into actionable recommendations for senior executives, and then delivering bespoke solutions to fill urgent requirements.
As a successful candidate, you will have an opportunity to develop your cyber security expertise while helping protect Field Effect’s clients from the latest security threats. You will be exposed to a wide range of IT infrastructures and analysis targets ranging from large telecommunications systems to small business workstations and from mobile to cloud to IoT. Analysts continually grow and learn by being exposed to and challenged by widely diverse and varied IT infrastructures and systems.
Threat hunting and developing expertise and capabilities unique within Canada is challenging and requires broad knowledge. We believe it is highly rewarding to help organizations defend against cyber-attacks and know that you are making a difference in ways that few others can.
Are you the right fit?
Existing knowledge and a passion for the following skills will be an asset to the role:
- Network analysis and packet capture using tools like Wireshark, Tsharkand tcpdump
- Fluency in multiple programming languages including C/C++, Java and Python as well as familiarity with multiple processor architectures
- Software reverse engineering and vulnerability research skills
- Fuzzing and binary instrumentation
- Broad general IT knowledge, including Windows and Linuxenterprise networks, operating system internals, virtualized and cloud-based
- Knowledge of cyber security practices, challenges, tools, and techniques
- Knowledge of cellular technologies, especially LTE, and telecom service provider networks would be be an asset.
Candidates will typically have either a College or University degree in fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on cyber security. Don’t have this or all of the above? No problem! Equivalent experience will also be considered.
Candidates will be Canadian citizens and eligible for a Government of Canada Top Secret clearance.
