As another co-op term at Field Effect comes to a close, we wanted to take time to reflect on the experiences of our talented students. Curious about their thoughts on working at Field Effect, we sent our co-ops a short survey with questions like:
- What surprised you the most about your experience as a Field Effect co-op?
- What is your fondest memory of your co-op experience?
- What would you say to someone thinking of applying at Field Effect?
The results are in, and we’re thrilled to share some of their honest feedback and responses. Keep reading to learn what these bright student employees had to say about their time with us and get a first-hand view of what it’s like being part of our dynamic team.
What surprised you the most about your experience as a Field Effect co-op?
"I was surprised by how much of a place I felt I had within the company and within my team. It did not feel like I had to force myself to fit into an unfamiliar system. Rather, a place had been made for me where I could be a part of the company in a way that was suited to my position." - Ailith Priddle, Software Developer
"What surprised me the most was feeling like a part of the team right away. The level of responsibility given to me was that of a full-time employee, which is very valuable in terms of learning and developing experience." - Noah do Rego, Software Developer
What's your fondest memory from your co-op experience?
"My fondest memory is how welcoming everyone I worked with during my co-op was. When I started here (and this is definitely still true today) I had a lot to learn. At first, I found this really intimidating. But everyone I’ve worked with has been encouraging of my learning process and never made me feel bad for asking questions. My manager especially fostered an environment that made it easy for me to be comfortable asking questions, which is definitely a large contributing factor to how much I’ve learned over the course of my co-op." - Elizabeth Van Oorschot, Security Analyst
"I loved the company socials held every other Friday! I love the "Crackalackin" awards because it allows people to be recognized for all of their hard work, and it's just a great way to end the week!" - Madeleine Schoenborn, Business Administrative Assistant
How are you different today than before your co-op term began?
"I have always had the experience of working in a corner and being told to do tasks. Here I was involved in every step of the process from conception to completion. I have become more methodical in my decision-making since I was given so much responsibility, and more confident to talk to stakeholders—even the CEO of the company." - Karman Singh, Enterprise Application Analyst
"The most different aspect that has changed during my co-op has been my understanding of computers as a whole. It has motivated me to continue my learning outside of the office and opened the possibility of a career after university." - Juan Pablo Sanchez Garcia, IT Administrator
Is there a project that stands out from your term?
"I've been working on the same project my whole co-op doing various tasks. I've enjoyed just about every task I've been given since they have all helped me learn something." - Rita Singh, Software Developer
"The video project I will be doing with marketing!!" - Madeleine Schoenborn, Business Administrative Assistant

What would you say to someone thinking of applying at Field Effect?
"Do it! My experience here gives me a competitive edge in the job market over other new grads, as I am a much better developer now." - Benjamin Buchanan Marriner, Software Developer
"Go for it! FE has a great team environment, valuable work, and fun events. There's no downside to applying!" - Noah do Rego, Software Developer
